If you are lucky enough to be in Crested Butte today, March 2, 2020, you may notice an overall excitement throughout the town. Twelve new inches of snow.  That's right, 12 inches of snow overnight is something that does not happen often and it does something to the minds and hearts of skiers and snowboarders alike.

Here are a couple of other observations worth noting. You will notice people on the mountain smiling more on a powder day. You may even become aware you are smiling. If you are a local, the liftlines may appear slightly longer than a typical day but with Mt. Crested Butte's unique terrain and trails there are always places to find powder, even if you aren't the first one on the chair lift. If you are not a local then you will probably be pleasantly surprised at just how short the lines are compared to larger ski resorts like Vail and Breckenridge. 

If you are thinking about grabbing a quick bite before you head to the mountain, you may want to call in advance to make sure the restaurant or shop you are interested in is open. That's right, some shops or restaurants will be closed this morning to allow owners and employees an opportunity to get in some early morning runs on the mountain.  This has been a tradition for years and is part of the unique culture and charm of Crested Butte. 

Please be safe, stay in boundary, follow signs and always look uphill and around you when skiing, riding and traversing on the mountain. Safety First!
